THE EPHESUS ARCHEOLOGY MUSEUM
Situated in the country town of Selçuk, it is one of the
most important local museums, where objects found during
excavations are displayed. The works of art dug up between
1867-1905 were t ransported
to the British Museum in England; those from 1905-1923 went
to Vienna.
With the establishment of the Turkish Republic, taking
antiques out of the country was forbidden and a museum
founded in the country town of Selçuk.
It was developed contiunally since then and was given its present from in
1983. Unlike many museums where objects are displayed in
chronological order, here they are placed where they were
found, conforming to modern practice. The first room is the
Hall of Residential Relics.
